Good morning! It’s Tuesday, January 6, 2026. It’s the fifth anniversary of Donald Trump’s attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol after losing the 2020 election. In some alternative timeline, he’s sitting in prison right now.
But alas, we are here. In today’s newsletter:

TOP STORY
After Venezuela Attack, Trump Says Something Must Be Done About Mexico

Hours after bombing a sovereign nation in the middle of the night and kidnapping its president, Donald Trump was already on Fox News hinting at his next target: Mexico.
THE DETAILS: When Fox’s Griff Jenkins asked if the Venezuela operation was a “message” to Mexico’s leftist President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump didn’t exactly say no.
”She’s very frightened of the cartels. They’re running Mexico,” Trump said. ”I’ve asked her numerous times, ‘Would you like us to take out the cartels?’ … Something is gonna have to be done with Mexico.”
OF COURSE: Trump also admitted what this is really about. Asked about Venezuela’s oil industry—the country has the largest proven reserves on the planet—Trump said the quiet part out loud: ”I see that we’re going to be very strongly involved in it. We have the greatest oil companies in the world, the biggest, the greatest, and we’re going to be very much involved in it.”
BUT BUT BUT: The administration swore this wasn’t about regime change. Democrats are calling bullshit.
”Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth looked every Senator in the eye a few weeks ago and said this wasn’t about regime change,” Senator Andy Kim (NJ-D) said after the bombing. “They blatantly lied to Congress.”
WHY IT MATTERS: Trump just established that he can bomb countries, kidnap their leaders, and threaten neighbors—all before lunch, all without congressional approval.
The Venezuela strike happened without a vote. The threats to Mexico are happening on cable news. And a ”second wave” of strikes is already being teased. If there are no consequences for Venezuela, what exactly stops him from doing ”something” about Mexico? The Constitution?
BOTTOM LINE: This isn’t foreign policy. It’s a strongman checklist—and Mexico just got moved up the queue.

Trump Finally Kills the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
After 57 years of funding PBS, NPR, and hundreds of local stations, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting voted Monday to dissolve itself entirely—choosing death with dignity over zombie-agency status after Trump and the GOP finally succeeded in defunding it. Rural communities and small towns that relied on CPB-funded stations for educational programming and local journalism now watch that infrastructure collapse in real time, because when decades of “liberal bias” conspiracy theories meet actual political power, this is what you get: no more Big Bird, and a whole lot of media deserts. Tim Walz Quits After Months of MAGA Harassment
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced he won’t seek a third term after enduring months of relentless MAGA attacks—including Trump reposting a conspiracy theory falsely accusing Walz of murdering state legislator Melissa Hortman, who was actually killed by a man radicalized by right-wing fake news. The former VP candidate, who was on the national ticket just four months ago, cited Trump’s “dangerous, depraved behavior” and said defending himself would take time away from protecting Minnesotans from “criminals who prey on our generosity and cynics who prey on our differences.” Full story
Congressional Republicans ‘Disappear’ Jan. 6 Memorial to Law Enforcement
A bronze plaque mandated by Congress to honor officers who defended the Capitol on January 6 has vanished—Speaker Mike Johnson won’t display it, Trump’s DOJ is trying to kill the lawsuit demanding compliance, and the only memorials now are poster board replicas Democrats taped outside their office doors. The party that screamed “Back the Blue” is literally memory-holing the cops who saved their lives while Trump pardons the mob that tried to kill them. Full story
Denmark’s PM Warns Trump: Take Greenland and NATO Dies
Denmark’s Prime Minister just drew a red line: If Trump uses military force to seize Greenland, NATO is finished. Days after the Venezuela raid, Trump also refused to rule out a military takeover of the Danish territory, mocking Denmark’s defenses while his inner circle posts maps of Greenland in American colors captioned “SOON.” The stakes: An attack would shatter the 80-year alliance that’s kept peace in Europe—proving Article 5 means nothing when America’s the aggressor. 🗳️ Yesterday’s poll results
On Saturday we asked, do you support Trump’s invasion of Venezuela? 98% of you said NO.
Joyce called it: “This is a high price to pay for distraction from Epstein files”
TSix wrote: “What the….? Trump HAS to be removed from office ASAP! The offenses just go on and on and get worse and worse as time passes. I want ALL politicians removed from office who support him too. This behavior is NOT who we are.”
Mary wrote, “Who is answering yes!” (Happy Birthday by the way!)

Trump is About to Give Big Oil ANOTHER Gift, Courtesy of U.S. Taxpayers
You’d think that invading a sovereign nation, kidnapping its leader, and stealing its oil might be enough for fossil fuel companies—but nope. Donald Trump now says that U.S. tax payers will foot the bill for…
