1. Three U.S. troops dead, Trump parties — and Hegseth calls it a "sacrifice"
The weekend death toll from Trump's Iran war climbed to three, with the latest service member killed in Iraq during a "controlled detonation" as the U.S. launched additional airstrikes. Energy Secretary Chris Wright went on ABC and told the country that Trump's plans are "unchanged" — then separately and awkwardly acknowledged, apparently for the first time on camera, that Biden actually defeated Trump in 2020.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the deaths a "sacrifice," which was apparently enough to make Marjorie Taylor Greene go nuclear on him publicly. A Trump official also confirmed the mission has now pivoted toward securing oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
The "Peace President" sent troops to die for oil futures and went to a pool party.
2. Trump booed so hard at the World Cup that it registered like a diesel truck
Donald Trump walked onto the field at MetLife Stadium Sunday to present the World Cup trophy — and got booed so loudly it measured 84 decibels, the equivalent of a passing diesel truck and loud enough to cause gradual hearing loss with prolonged exposure.
That's up from 78 decibels of ambient crowd noise before he appeared. The jeers overpowered the background music. Networks cut away from his image on the Jumbotron after the crowd erupted earlier in the evening, swapping to an aerial shot of the stadium.
Then, after presenting the trophy, Trump stood awkwardly next to Spain's celebrating players until FIFA President Gianni Infantino darted across the stage to escort him away so the champions could celebrate without him hovering.
This was Trump's beloved World Cup — the event he personally championed bringing to the U.S. The crowd thanked him accordingly.
3. ICE has now killed three people, and Tom Homan's defense just collapsed on live television
Two men killed by ICE agents in six days. A contractor accused of shooting a woman protesting outside an ICE facility and fleeing the scene. Tom Homan's response on "Face the Nation" was to blame the victims for failing to comply — until host Margaret Brennan apparently confronted him with video evidence that dismantled his account in real time. Homan then announced ICE officers will now use body cameras during vehicle stops — a reform he presumably would have opposed last week.
Kristi Noem's crash hiring blitz for ICE agents, which prioritized speed over training, is now under renewed scrutiny as the bodies pile up. Three people dead, one accountability hearing, zero consequences — and the border czar is squirming.
4. DOJ activates a secret 30-year-old deportation court no one has ever used before
The Justice Department has filed the first-ever petition to a secretive, dormant court created in 1996 to handle deportations of people the government labels "alien terrorists" — a court so obscure it has never been used in three decades. The court operates under classified procedures, meaning the government can present evidence the accused never sees. The move signals the administration is actively hunting for legal architecture that bypasses normal due process — and found one sitting in a drawer since the Clinton era.
5. AIPAC drops tens of millions into Michigan Senate primary to stop Abdul El-Sayed's lane
AIPAC is pouring tens of millions of dollars into the Michigan Democratic Senate primary on behalf of Rep. Haley Stevens against Abdul El-Sayed. The race has become a proxy war over the Democratic Party's direction on Gaza, with the pro-Israel lobbying group making clear it will spend whatever it takes to keep a progressive Muslim candidate out of a general election Senate seat in the most electorally significant Arab-American state in the country. The spending gap is a feature, not a bug — the point is to make the math impossible before a single vote is cast.
6. Barron Trump's manosphere idols just got arrested on 59 criminal charges
Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by federal marshals in Miami on Saturday after British police filed 38 new charges against them — bringing their total criminal charge count to 59, including seven additional counts of rape, child pornography, and sex trafficking.
Andrew Tate faces seven additional rape counts, three counts of arranging sex trafficking, three assault counts, and 19 charges related to child and extreme pornography. Tristan faces rape, sexual assault, and trafficking charges. The UK's Crown Prosecution Service is seeking their extradition.
Here's the part that matters beyond the charges: JD Vance follows the Tates on Twitter. Barron Trump reportedly connected directly with Andrew Tate through a mutual manosphere influencer. And after that conversation — in which they apparently bonded over the idea that Romanian prosecutors were out to silence them — a Romanian official who'd recently visited Mar-a-Lago returned the brothers' passports.
The Tates' own attorney didn't bother denying the arrest was political. He attacked "a low-level functionary at the Department of Justice" for greenlighting it — a direct appeal to the people in Trump's orbit who've been running interference for these men.
