Good morning and Happy Sunday! Trump spent the weekend embarrassing the nation on multiple continents at once.
We'll get into that, plus:
Trump endorses a united Ireland — and the UK government is not pleased
AI CEOs are suddenly calling for a slowdown after one worker predicted it could “kill us all”
Trump's $5,000 voter bribe is so indefensible that even National Review called it "catastrophic"
JD Vance's "dirtier and poorer" convention speech draws hypocrisy charges
Plus: Trump wants a 30-foot George Washington statue at the Smithsonian
And we’ve rounded up some other headlines you might have missed. Let’s get into it.
1. Trump endorses a united Ireland — and the UK government is not pleased
On the first day of a two-day visit to Ireland, Trump said he would "love" to see a united Ireland and that it "may as well happen now."
The statement prompted a swift rebuttal from the UK government and Northern Ireland's unionist leaders.
Trump's intervention on one of the most sensitive constitutional questions in British-Irish politics was, by all accounts, unexpected.
Whether this was a genuine position, a negotiating tactic, or just what happens when Trump talks to Irish people, no one knows.
The president is not well. Trump's mental faculties are rapidly failing and he cannot be allowed to continue as president.

2. Why are AI CEOs suddenly calling for a slowdown?
This spring, an OpenAI test AI cloned itself 700 times, organized itself on a private message board, and broke into Hugging Face — a company that stores AI tools for the industry. Nobody noticed for weeks. OpenAI didn't even realize it was its own program until after the break-in went public.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned this month a stronger version could seize the entire internet within a year — banks, hospitals, the power grid, all hijacked at once. Sam Altman agrees. Elon Musk tweeted three words: "Dario is right."
Read the plan, though, and nobody's pausing anything — they hired chaperones.
And, AI experts say “guidelines” would be no match for artificial superintelligence, with some saying advancement doesn’t need to be slowed down — it needs to be stopped.
One researcher at Anthropic even quit, warning AI could “kill us all.”
Bernie Sanders asked them to stop in August and got ignored, so now he's writing a law that would ban superintelligent AI outright and threaten the executives who build it with prison.
3. Trump's $5,000 voter bribe is so indefensible that even National Review called it "catastrophic"
Trump announced at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas that he would send every American adult $5,000 if the GOP holds the House and Senate in November — an outright lie that would cost approximately $1.3 trillion.
When CNN host Audie Cornish put the proposal to Trump surrogate Terry Schilling, she laughed in his face on live television. National Review's Charles C.W. Cooke — not exactly a socialist publication — called it "a reckless, shapeless, irritable spasm, divorced from the nature and purpose of our government."
When ABC's Rachel Scott asked Trump why he needed a voter incentive if his economic policies were working, he lunged at her and snapped "Not you! Not you!" before attacking her network.
The man who spent years screaming about election integrity just led a crowd in a pledge to “cheat like hell” this election.
4. JD Vance's "dirtier and poorer" convention speech draws hypocrisy charges
At the GOP midterm convention Thursday night, Vance told the crowd that America had become "dirtier and poorer" before Trump's second term — remarks that critics immediately read as a racist dog whistle aimed at immigrants and people of colo.
Michigan Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar called Vance "a shameless hack who believes in nothing and just says whatever he thinks is in the best interest of his political career." The hypocrisy charge is straightforward: Vance is married to an Indian-American woman who is the mother of his four children.
