THE BIG PICTURE

Trump spent this week getting caught — insider trading 327 stocks before his tariff pause, hijacking America's 250th birthday for pay-to-play schemes, and letting ICE arrest 10,000 people in five days while an Olympian faces a felony charge for touching pool paint.

On the eve of a milestone birthday that's supposed to be about the country, not the man — ask yourself who's actually celebrating America, and who's just celebrating themselves.

You called it. Now you can get paid for it.

You already know who's going to win the California governor primary.
You have a take on the Texas Senate race, the 2028 presidential field, and whether the next Rotten Tomatoes score lands above 80.

You form these opinions every time you read the news. And Kalshi is where those opinions have real value. Prediction markets cover the full range of what politics and culture actually produce — governor matchups, Senate runoffs, Billboard chart leaders, award show outcomes, celebrity news.

Every market has real money behind it. Prices shift as new information comes in, which means the market reflects more than any single pundit, poll, or hot take. If you're already forming opinions, you're already doing the work.

Kalshi just lets you act on it. Find the race or chart you're already following and trade what you know.

KEY DEVELOPMENTS

1. Trump hijacked America's 250th birthday — and a congressional report has the receipts

A House Democratic subcommittee report released this week found that Trump converted the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations into a vehicle for "political ideology and pet projects," with whistleblowers alleging donors who tried to give to the original bipartisan organizing group were steered elsewhere.

The Social Security Administration is now printing the "Freedom 250" logo — a semi-private, partisan entity with a history of data harvesting that employs former DOGE operatives — on the Social Security cards of every baby born in America for the rest of 2026.

The White House deleted photos from the National Mall event after Trump reportedly threw a tantrum about the crowd size. A top doctor warned Trump is endangering lives by planning to speak for 45 minutes in 100-degree heat. A piece of the stage broke off during rehearsal and nearly hit performers.

The celebration of America is, in every measurable way, falling apart.

2. Trump bought 327 stocks the day before he paused tariffs — then watched the market explode

The day before Trump announced his 90-day tariff pause and sent the S&P 500 up nearly 10 percent — one of its largest single-day gains ever — he quietly bought 327 individual stocks worth up to $12.8 million, including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, and Google's parent Alphabet.

That's not a coincidence. That's insider trading.

The pattern goes further: Trump bought Intel stock four days before announcing a $9 billion federal equity stake in the company. He bought Palantir stock while publicly praising it and handing it more ICE contracts — and his deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller owns up to $250,000 in Palantir too.

By law, Trump was required to disclose these trades within 45 days. He waited over a year — and didn't disclose thousands of other 2025 trades at all.

In total, Trump reported $2.2 billion in income in 2025. The administration is doing this in the open, with no fear of consequences, because so far there haven't been any.

3. An Olympian was indicted for touching the Reflecting Pool. The Epstein files remain sealed.

Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn was indicted on a felony charge after he touched a peeling piece of liner in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool during a renovation project — a moment Trump publicly called "vandalism." Judge Jeanine Pirro, now a top DOJ official, couldn't explain on air what the actual damage was

The internet noticed: "They've arrested more people for touching the peeling paint at the Reflecting Pool than they've arrested from the Epstein files.” The DOJ also accidentally released the sealed Jack Smith report to someone they're currently suing. Kash Patel, meanwhile, has ordered hundreds of FBI agents and analysts onto what the Daily Beast is calling a "crackpot theory" investigation. (The Daily Beast). The Justice Department is now a prop

4. June jobs report: 57,000 jobs, 720,000 workers gone, and the labor force is shrinking

The economy added just 57,000 jobs in June — and that's before the downward revisions to April and May, which together came in 74,000 lower than previously reported.

The unemployment rate held at 4.2%, but the headline number obscures the rot: 720,000 people left the labor force entirely last month, pushing workforce participation to its lowest level since March 2021.

More than one in four unemployed workers have been jobless for at least six months. A growing share are stuck in part-time work because they can't find full-time jobs. Higher prices are eating into paychecks. And the man who made "saving Black jobs" a campaign centerpiece is presiding over a Black unemployment rate that dwarfs the national figure.

5. Trump's secret deportation surge hits 10,000 arrests in five days

After ICE's previous operations ended in two U.S. citizens shot dead and a DHS secretary's resignation, Trump quietly ordered a new mass arrest campaign — no press conferences, no fanfare, just internal orders demanding 2,000 detentions a day.

It's working. Daily arrests have roughly doubled from 1,000 earlier this year, peaking at more than 2,400 in a single day last Saturday. The detained population inside ICE facilities has jumped nearly 4,000, to more than 63,000.

Agents are picking people up at traffic stops, immigration check-ins, and on the street. Among those swept up: Sister Letty Ugboaja, a Nigerian nun and local nurse in South Texas, arrested on her way to church Sunday morning.

The quiet approach is deliberate — the World Cup has international eyes on the U.S., and the last round of high-profile raids collapsed into courtroom humiliations and bloodshed.

6. Right-wingers lose their minds over Mamdani asking people to turn up their thermostats

Zohran Mamdani asked New Yorkers to set their ACs to 78 degrees on the city's hottest July 4th in 20 years — a basic grid-stability request — and the right promptly declared the fall of Western civilization.

Never mind that the guidance is identical to what red states tell their residents during heat waves.

Lindsey Graham warned it was coming for South Carolina. Spencer Pratt escalated from "socialism" to "then a bullet" in a single post. Ted Cruz tried to dunk on Mamdani and got community-noted into oblivion because Texas's own Public Utility Commission makes the exact same 78-degree recommendation.

The mayor's guidance was voluntary and science-backed. Of course that did not matter.

The same people who spent years telling you the free market solves everything are now furious that a city is asking you to unplug your phone charger.
