Good morning and happy Thursday! This is Notice News. It’s October 22, Election Day is 12 days out, and Trump spent last night calling Kaitlan Collins a “dummy” to her face.
We’ll get into that, plus:

Many parents blamed themselves, or their kids, for the hours lost to the feed. But legal claims allege social media companies built in psychological triggers on purpose: intermittent rewards, endless scrolling, toxic social comparison, and recommendation engines that pull kids into content rabbit holes.
Now families are filing legal claims against platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Trump calls a pediatrician “Tr*nny Annie” and says she should lose her medical license
Trump flew to South Carolina Wednesday night to rescue Sen. Darline Graham, whose race keeps slipping. Cook Political Report moved the race toward Andrews this week, and her lead in the polling average is down to 2.7 points.
Trump spoke for 92 minutes to a few hundred supporters and was met with a growing number of protesters. But he eventually got to her opponent, Dr. Annie Andrews, a pediatrician.
“Darlene’s running against a radical left lunatic named Tr*nny Annie Andrews,” Trump said. He called her “a mutilizer,” then helpfully explained that “that’s a person that doesn’t do good things.”
“Annie Andrews should have her medical license revoked. Take it away,” he said.
Republicans have accused Andrews of supporting surgeries for transgender minors, which never happened.
Security walked at least eleven protesters out. When a rallygoer threw a punch at one of them, Trump compared him to Evander Holyfield.
“Man, I love that. I watched that,” he said.
He also tried to complain about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize and couldn’t remember what it was called. “Does anybody know the name of that peace prize?” he asked. “They gave the Pulitzer Prize to a young lady.”
Trump doesn’t fly to South Carolina to call a pediatrician a slur unless he’s worried. Her race against Darline Graham is within the margin of error, and there are 12 days left. Donate $5 to Annie Andrews’ campaign on ActBlue today.
Trump tied a Russia sanctions waiver to an American’s release, then called Kaitlan Collins “a dummy”
Russia freed Stephen Hubbard, a retired American teacher, this week without asking for a prisoner swap. It came after Trump let Russia export diesel and waived congressionally approved sanctions two days before they took effect.
On Tuesday, Trump said the U.S. had gotten “nothing back other than high diesel.”
By Wednesday, he was telling Truth Social that if sanctions had been imposed, “certainly those negotiations would have come to a complete and total halt.”
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked him about it at the White House. “So you did give something?” she asked.
“You don’t know anything. You’re fake news CNN,” Trump said. Then he kept going.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re a low-IQ person. You’re a dummy, and you work for CNN,” he told her. “We’re getting him back because of me.”
Collins later wrote that Trump was “directly tying waiving Russian sanctions to the release of the freed American Stephen Hubbard, despite denying he gave anything to Putin.”
Meanwhile, in St. Petersburg, envoy Steve Witkoff told Putin, “You are a humanitarian also, sir” and added, “I salute that.” Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis both criticized it. JD Vance defended it.
We’re glad Stephen Hubbard is home. We’d like to know what it cost.
JD Vance is “disgusted” by Republicans who don’t like Ramaswamy’s ad. Nancy Mace says it may cost him the presidency.
The fallout from Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad starring Amy Acton’s estranged mother, who stayed married to a man arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl, is not done yet.
On Wednesday, JD Vance picked a side. “I have to admit that I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement,” he told reporters. He told them to “stop whining about an advertisement and go win the race in 13 days.”
At a rally outside Cincinnati that afternoon, he went further. “Vivek Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a TV commercial which calls it out like it is and calls Amy Acton a liar,” Vance said.
Trump said he knew “nothing about it,” then offered that “it’s a very unusual situation to have a mother hate a daughter that much.” Ohio Sen. Jon Husted said, “I would not have run that ad.”
Then Rep. Nancy Mace went on CNN and said Ramaswamy “managed to limbo under the lowest bar of decency in this country.”
“The idea that the vice president would go to the mattresses to defend this ad might have cost JD Vance the presidency,” she said.
Betting markets agree with her about Ohio. Kalshi has Acton at 76% and Polymarket at 79%, up since the ad surfaced. A Marist poll has her ahead 50 to 43.
When Nancy Mace is the conscience of your party, it’s been a long week.
Neil Bush, son and brother of Republican presidents, voted for James Talarico
Neil Bush, 71, the son of George H.W. Bush and brother of George W. Bush, said late Tuesday that he voted for Democrat James Talarico over Trump-backed Ken Paxton in Texas’s Senate race.
“I have been a Republican for most of my life, and I still believe deeply in many traditional Republican principles,” he wrote on Facebook. “But character matters more than party affiliation.”
“More broadly, I believe Donald Trump and those who have enabled him have done enormous damage to the Republican Party,” he wrote.
He said he’d never met Talarico but has “been enormously impressed” by him. “He speaks with respect, seeks common ground,” Bush wrote.
“Today, I voted against a style of politics that I believe has damaged our country. More importantly, I voted for the kind of character and leadership I hope will help heal it.”
The RealClearPolling average has Talarico at 48.5% to Paxton’s 46.3%.
Early voting in Texas runs through October 30. Neil Bush has done his part.
Elon Musk threatened the people who want to investigate him, and the internet laughed
Politico reported this week that Democrats are drawing up a list of possible investigations into Elon Musk if they win Congress, starting with his role in throttling Ukraine’s Starlink access and his time running DOGE.
Musk answered on Twitter Wednesday. “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” he wrote, promising he would “find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them.”
His own platform did not take it well.
“Empty promises and empty threats. Pure theater,” wrote YouTuber Zack Nelson.
“Threatening Congress so they don’t investigate you… gosh, sounds exactly like something an innocent man does,” another user wrote.
Sen. Adam Schiff has already called for a full Senate investigation of the Starlink slowdown, with Musk under oath. “Either the President was lying or Musk was lying,” Schiff wrote.
If Democrats win in 12 days, Musk can tell Congress which one it was.
Armed federal agents are knocking on doors looking for noncitizen voters
Armed Homeland Security Investigations agents are going door to door asking people about their immigration and voter registration status, CBS News reports. DHS says there could be up to 250,000 fraudulent voters. So far, only 156 people have been charged.
On Monday, federal authorities arrested 11 people in California, all green card holders. One of them, 72-year-old Omar Muñoz, says he never registered to vote. Prosecutors say he registered in 2019 and voted four times.
“Unfortunately, they used me as one of their props,” Muñoz told Fox 11.
Los Angeles County officials say the DOJ’s list of about 20,000 names is a mess. A preliminary county check of 200 people on it found nearly 40% were born in the U.S.
Late Tuesday, the DNC and the party’s House and Senate campaign arms sued to stop the administration from pressuring states to purge voter rolls, set aside certain ballots, and threaten election officials.
156 charged out of a claimed 250,000. That’s 0.06%.
Trump and the sycophants in his Cabinet have used the full weight of their agencies to target the president’s political opponents and critics alike.
Prosecutors have already gone after New York state Attorney General Letitia James, former FBI Director James Comey (twice!), and Trump’s own former national security adviser, John Bolton, on a variety of dubious charges.
And in October — just weeks before an election in which she is on the ballot — federal agents raided the home of Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar under the pretext of an immigration-fraud probe stretching back more than 25 years.
An outspoken critic of Trump, she has long been singled out by the MAGA cult leader but interestingly never charged with any crime.
