WAKE-UP CALL
Elon Musk says the quiet part out loud about Social Security

Elon Musk publicly confirmed last week what so many people fear: Social Security is on the chopping block. But it just may be the wake-up call we need.
WHAT HAPPENED: On Joe Roganās podcast Friday, the worldās richest person called Social Securityāa program that keeps millions out of povertyāa āmassive Ponzi scheme.ā (Newsflash: itās not.)
Republicans have hated Social Security since it launched almost a hundred years ago, but because of its massive popularity, any attack on the public pension program is usually quickly abandoned.
However, rather than a frontal assault, Musk has started lying through his teeth about waste and fraud in the program, in an obvious attempt to turn Americans (however slowly) against the program.
Also, the agency plans to cut 7,000 of its 57,000 workers, a move former administrator Martin OāMalley said Monday could trigger a collapse of the system.
Of course, compulsive liar Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed not to cut Social Securityāa promise directly at odds with his promise to reduce the size of the federal government.
BUT BUT BUT: Muskās comments on Friday triggered an avalanche of outrage from Progressives lawmakers and advocates over the weekend.
On NBCās āMeet the Press,ā Bernie Sanders called Muskās claims outrageous: āFor the last 40 years, Social Security has paid out every nickel to every eligible American⦠that's a hell of a Ponzi scheme.ā
AOC also laid into Musk, calling him āa leech on the public."
And Rep. Greg Casar, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, called out the hypocrisy of "a guy who makes $8 million a day off the governmentā thinking āseniors getting $65 a day they worked their whole lives to earn is a 'Ponzi scheme.'"
WHATāS NEXT: Muskās not-so-subtle attack on Social Security, and Martin OāMalleyās dire warning about the effect of cuts to the agency, may just be the wake up call the country needs to protect the pensions of 74 million Americans.
š° Most important stories right now
Thereās a lot of sh*t out there. Hereās whatās actually importantāand why.
Why it matters: In case you needed more proof that tariffs are a bad idea for just about everyone, stocks on Wall Street took a major tumble after Trump confirmed yesterday that tariffs against Canada, Mexico, and China will proceed. Not only will prices will go up for just about everything, heās also risking a recession. Full story from CNN.
Why it matters: It remains to be seen if Ukraine can win the war against Russian aggression without U.S. support. As one Ukrainian source says, "by abruptly halting military assistance to Ukraine, President Trump is hanging Ukrainians out to dry and giving Russia the green light to continue marching west.ā Full story from AP.
Why it matters: ABCās stunning report could mean the Trump administration is complicit in a war crime. As we reported on social media, blocking humanitarian aid to civilians is a war crime and could constitute collective punishmentāwhich is prohibited by the Geneva Convention. EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
A civil war is brewing in the Democratic Party

Pro-capitalist forces have declared war on the left as the Democratic Party struggles with how to respond to Novemberās across-the-board defeat to Republicans.
DRIVING THE NEWS: Politico reports that establishment Democrats, including consultants, staffers, and elected officials, gathered at a ritzy resort outside Washington, D.C. in early February to discuss a ācomeback strategy.ā
Their solution? Move the party to the right, doubling down on āpatrioticā messaging, masculinity, and capitalism while abandoning Trans rights and other āunpopular positions.ā
Their āfindings,ā published in a five page memo, claims the āfar leftā has basically taken over the party and suggest a radical re-adjustment. They specifically suggest:
Stop talking about āhandoutsā like student loan forgivenessādespite its incredible popularity with the base
Take power away from the grassroots by moving āaway from small-dollar donorsā (this is a direct quote)
Stop ādemonizing wealth and corporations broadlyāādespite 2 out 3 Americans believing big business has too much influence over government
Be pro-capitalist in a āsmart wayāāwhatever the f*ck that means
Andāno jokeāthe report says Democrats arenāt trusted by the working class because of the āvilification of wealth.ā
As such, ācentristā Democrats have been planting anti-AOC propaganda in DC publications and are apparently planing a āless pugilistic approachā in responding to Trumpās State of the Union tonight.
MEANWHILE: Progressives says the memo is drastically out of touch with the partyās base and the broader American public.
A recent poll found that 73% of Democrats say Democrats arenāt doing enough to oppose Trump.
Anger towards Trump and crony capitalism has spilled into the streets. Thousands have turned out across the country to protest Trumpās destruction of the federal government and Elonās self-serving influence.
WHATāS NEXT: Political experts say all this points to a brewing civil war in the party, with big business and corporate democrats pitted against Progressives and the grassroots.
Some are saying weāre even on the verge another Tea Party.

Jkison also voted for Trump: āTrump could stop Musk. Trump is the enabler, Musk is just his henchman.ā
Crys votes Musk and said just the opposite: āTrump has less power without Musk.ā
