TOP STORY

SCOTUS Greenlights Newsom’s California Map That Could Flip 5 Seats Blue

The Supreme Court just handed Democrats a major win in the fight for Congress—and, shockingly, it was unanimous.

On Wednesday, the court rejected a last-ditch effort by California Republicans and Trump to block the state’s new voter-approved congressional map, which could flip up to five GOP-held seats blue in 2026.

Last year, Trump pushed Texas Republicans to redraw their congressional maps specifically to gain five seats—despite a lower court finding the maps likely discriminate based on race. The Supreme Court let Texas use those maps anyway. So California Gov. Gavin Newsom said: fine, two can play this game. But unlike Texas Republicans, who just needed to strong-arm their legislature, Newsom decided to actually convince voters.

And he did. California’s new map passed, and now it’s locked in for 2026.

Control of the House could come down to these maps.

🗞️ Making News

Trump Suggests ‘Softer Touch’ After ICE Executions—Translation: The Polls Are Terrifying Him

After ICE agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, Trump is suddenly talking about using “a softer touch” on immigration, because nothing says leadership like pivoting your messaging after your federal agents execute Americans on American soil. But this isn’t policy change, it’s damage control. Read the full story.

Michelle Obama documentary rises 13,000% in views as Melania film opens

Michelle Obama’s 2020 documentary Becoming saw a 13,000% spike in viewership the same weekend Melania Trump’s new film hit theaters. Amazon dropped $75 million on the Melania vanity project (directed by a guy in the Epstein Files accused of sexual misconduct, naturally), pulled in a weak $7 million opening weekend, and Melania herself keeps plugging it at official White House events while insisting “this is not a promotion.” Read the full story.

Teachers Sue Trump’s DHS After ICE Agents Terrorize Minnesota Schools

Two Minnesota school districts and an 89,000-member teachers’ union are suing DHS after federal agents broke their promise not to raid schools. Superintendent Brenda Lewis says the fear is devastating: “Students are afraid to come to school. Parents are afraid to drop them off”—and attendance is plummeting as families flee to virtual learning. DHS had explicitly promised “ICE does not raid schools” on its own website, then scrapped that policy “without explanation, without using the proper procedures,” according to the lawsuit. WATCH: JD Vance Delivers Sick Message to Alex Pretti’s Family

JD Vance was asked if he’d apologize to the family of Alex Pretti, the unarmed Minnesota protester shot dead by Border Patrol agents last month. His response—delivered with a smirk—was sickening. The day Pretti was killed, Vance amplified posts calling him an “assassin” who “tried to murder federal agents,” even though Pretti was disarmed before he was shot. Watch the full exchange.

🗳️ Yesterday’s poll results

Yesterday we asked, is Trump truly a sexist? 99% of you voted YES, it’s as clear as day!

  • Louis said, “This country WILL NOT "move on" to something else. Trump is going to be held accountable for his crimes. ALL OF THEM.”

  • Delores said, “It does not take a PHD to recognize a narcissistic, self-obsessed, tantrum throwing, spoiled sickophant. He is deathly afraid of strong women so tries, from a safe distance, to dominate them from a position of power—but bet your bottom dollar could not go toe to toe with one.”

  • Smith said, “He's a pervert, pedophile and all around lousy human being delusional old fool”

  • Cmeek said, “I don't know how you can say it more clearly than ‘Yes, it's as clear as day.’”

IN DEPTH

How Oligarch Media Ownership Accelerates Democracy’s Decline

The Washington Post laid off more than 300 journalists this week—foreign correspondents, local reporters, sports writers, entire desks gone. One of America’s most respected newspapers, reduced to a shell by a man who could fund it forever with pocket change. Jeff Bezos, worth over $200 billion, chose to gut the Post rather than subsidize the infrastructure democracy desperately needs right now.

BUT BUT BUT: This isn’t just about one billionaire’s vanity project going sideways. It’s about the fundamental incompatibility between oligarch ownership and independent journalism—a tension baked into American media from the very beginning….
