Mamdani wins BIGGEST worker settlement in NYC history

Trump's address to the UN General Assembly yesterday was exactly what you'd expect from a man who has been at war with Iran, the press, and basic dignity simultaneously.

He threatened to "annihilate" Iran and "drive them into Hell" if the regime doesn't cut a deal, called Cuba "a failed state" that "will fall" — prompting the Cuban delegation to walk out mid-speech — and then, on his way in, got ambushed by CNN's Kaitlan Collins, who asked him about a new poll showing two-thirds of Americans don't believe the U.S. is winning the Iran war.

Trump, apparently forgetting that his White House ban doesn't extend to the United Nations, snapped: "I'm surprised CNN is here covering me. You should not be here." Collins informed him she was credentialed by the UN.

He went home and posted a midnight Truth Social tirade that included a bizarre cross-dressing video targeting her. The leader of the free world, everyone.

Senator John Curtis of Utah — a Republican — sent a letter Tuesday to Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin demanding that Donald Trump Jr. be subpoenaed over his business dealings with foreign nationals.

The trigger: a Putin-connected Russian oligarch named Umar Kremlev bankrolled a private-island party in the Bahamas for Don Jr.'s wedding.

Curtis's letter drew the line with a precision that should embarrass every Republican who stayed quiet: "A toaster is a wedding gift. A private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else."

Curtis also called for equivalent scrutiny of Hunter Biden, which is the price of admission for any Republican willing to say the obvious thing. The Senate Judiciary Committee has not yet responded.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was in Manhattan for the UN General Assembly this week and declined to attend the Trump’s reception for world leaders yesteday.

Instead, Sánchez — who has publicly clashed with Trump on Iran, NATO, and trade — met with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Australia's prime minister.

He called Trump's UNGA speech "very ideological" and "not backed and supported by facts and data."

The diplomatic snub was quiet enough to avoid an incident but loud enough that multiple Spanish outlets reported it. When the leader of a NATO ally would rather spend his New York afternoon with a state governor than the sitting U.S. president, that is not a protocol story. That is a power story.

After banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House last Friday, Trump watched the rest of the press pool suspend live coverage in solidarity while all three outlets filed First Amendment lawsuits.

His solution: launch "TrumpTV: The Essentials Station," a 24/7 YouTube livestream of rallies, speeches, and what the White House called "the latest and greatest from the administration.”

The channel's debut was not exactly appointment television — CNN's Erin Burnett compared it to North Korea's state broadcaster KCTV, and the White House responded by calling her a vile slur.

Meanwhile, the DOJ is begging a judge not to block Trump’s ban, calling White House access a ‘privilege — not a right.’

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale found three factual problems with the White House's companion news app and summarized his findings with the observation that it "may possibly be helpful to consume news from news outlets.

The ratings are in the gutter.

A grand jury has declined to bring charges in the death of Nolan Wells, the Black teen who was found dead after a July 4 boating trip off the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Lawyers for Wells' family — including civil rights attorney Ben Crump — say the grand jury's report leaves more questions than answers.

The decision continues a pattern that civil rights advocates have documented for years: grand juries reviewing deaths of Black lives that families and attorneys believe warrant criminal accountability, and returning nothing. Crump's involvement signals the family intends to pursue the case further.

New York City just took $131.5 million off DoorDash for shortchanging the people who bring you dinner in the rain.

It's the largest worker settlement in city history and the biggest ever for delivery workers in any American city.

City investigators went through 152 million payment transactions. They found that from 2022 to 2026, DoorDash didn't count trip time or on-call time as work, lowballed batched orders, paid workers late, and in thousands of cases never paid them at all. More than 260,000 workers will split over $115 million, roughly triple what they were shorted.

DoorDash's response: "Simply put, we screwed up." The company says it was an accident. Mamdani didn't buy it. He read CEO Tony Xu's own business advice back to him: "take the greedy algorithm and keep going all the way to see if there is more."

There was more all right, and it was coming out of workers' pay.
