1. Trump claims firefighters carried him out of 9/11 rubble. He wasn't there.
At a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Trump claimed he was rescued by firefighters from a building near the Twin Towers as it "creaked" and threatened to collapse.
PolitiFact found no evidence to support the claim.
The rest of the speech was no better, of course, showing a stunning lack of empathy throughout.
When the inevitable pushback came, Trump responded not with documentation but with a 476-word Truth Social tirade insisting everything he said was exactly accurate.
The same man who spent Labor Day posting AI slop images of himself — part of an average 33 Truth Social posts a day in August.
Twenty-five years on, he is still lying about 9/11 and making it about himself.
The president is not well.
Trump's mental faculties are rapidly failing and he cannot be allowed to continue as president.

2. Republicans’ midterm convention starts today — and it’s a gift to Democrats
The first Republican midterm convention in history opens today in Dallas, staged in part to boost Ken Paxton's reelection bid for Texas Attorney General — and it instantly became a monument to how radioactive his party's brand has gotten.
At least 45 Republicans skipped it, most members in competitive House races stayed home, and even Melania Trump isn’t going to show.
Getting in the door cost House members a minimum of $25,000, with premium packages running close to $100,000.
The party had to run a lottery for free tickets just to fill seats — for an event Trump dreamed up himself.. A Republican strategist called the party's midterm chances "bleak" on CNN, and a former GOP congressman is now openly asking whether Trump is "deliberately sabotaging his own party."
The whole handed James Talarico another national spotlight and a clean contrast: while Paxton shares a stage with Trump and Ted Cruz at a $25,000-a-head donor festival, Talarico is running as the candidate who doesn't need a pay-to-play convention to make his case to Texans.
3. Mamdani packs his 9/11 schedule while Giuliani and Pataki try to shame him off it
Zohran Mamdani isn't skipping a single 9/11 ceremony this week, no matter how many racists want him gone from the guest list. He's marking the 25th anniversary with at least eight events, including the World Trade Center memorial and the NYPD's official commemoration, where he's speaking.
He's doing it as a petition backed by Rudy Giuliani and George Pataki nears 100,000 signatures trying to shame him off the guest list — Giuliani baselessly claimed Mamdani doesn't believe 9/11 was terrorism.
Meanwhile, more than 250 members of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows rejected the pressure campaign outright, calling it what it is: Islamophobic.
Mamdani didn't bother arguing back. Alongside Jon Stewart, he announced the city was releasing over 170,000 pages of previously unreleased files outlining the city — and Giuliani — knew the air in lower Manhattan was dangerous but urged people to return to work there anyway.

4. Hakeem Jeffries' healthcare flip-flop just blew up into a full-on caucus revolt
Hakeem Jeffries spent a decade as a co-sponsor of Medicare for All. Then, in 2023, he became House Minority Leader and suddenly dropped support for the bill. He told Kristin Welker flatly that he doesn’t support the legislation, despite 90% of Democrats supporting it.
Axios reports his own caucus isn't buying it anymore.
"He's got a lot of people mad at him," one senior House Democrat said.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was more direct: "the majority of the Democratic caucus supports Medicare for All."
Progressive Caucus chair Greg Casar is already promising that after November, progressives "will make sure our party better holds the line on key progressive issues."
We traced where Jeffries' "neutrality" came from: nearly $170,000 in health insurance industry money flowed to him in the same years he walked the bill back.
5. South Park trolls Trump by changing its name to ‘South America’ for new season
Matt Stone and Trey Parker announced Monday they're changing South Park's name to "South America," saying they were "inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google" — the two tech giants that renamed the Gulf of Mexico on their maps the second Trump asked.
They also thanked parent company Paramount, "a Skydance Capitulation," a shot at the merger that's spent the year folding for the administration.
The joke lands weeks after Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario "Lake America" mid-trade-war with Canada, and one day after South Park won its first Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program since 2013.
