Good morning and happy Wednesday! This is Notice News. It’s Wednesday, November 4. Democrats won back the House and the Senate last night in truly historic fashion, and it was so big Trump couldn’t even pretend it was rigged.
What else we’re looking at this extraordinary morning:
Kansas elected its first Democratic senator since 1932
The next Oversight chair told Trump and his family to lawyer up
Elon Musk is the night’s biggest loser
The pediatrician Trump called a slur just took his candidate’s Senate seat
Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan and thanked AIPAC for the chance to beat it twice
Plus: A French artist finished the sentence on Trump’s Las Vegas tower

Democrats took the Senate, and Kansas elected its first Democratic senator since 1932
Democrats won control of the Senate Tuesday night, flipping Republican seats in North Carolina, Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio and Maine to overturn a 53-47 GOP majority.
Roy Cooper beat Trump’s handpicked candidate, former RNC chair Michael Whatley, in North Carolina. In Maine, Troy Jackson beat Susan Collins, who conceded before the AP even called the race.
James Talarico’s victory speech is worth watching in full.
Then came Kansas.
The Rev. Adam Hamilton, founding pastor of the 25,000-member Church of the Resurrection, beat Sen. Roger Marshall to become the first Democrat to win a Senate seat there since George McGill in 1932.
Trump won Kansas by more than 16 points in 2024. About 8 in 10 voters under 30 backed Hamilton.
“I don’t have any answers,” Marshall said as he conceded.
“Relief is on the way,” Chuck Schumer said after the Senate was called. Hamilton had the better line: “We’re not flyover country. We’re the heart of the country.”
As of this writing, even Mississippi is on the verge of going blue.
Democrats won the House, and the next Oversight chair told Trump’s family to “lawyer up”
Democrats also won back the House Tuesday night, ending four years of Republican control. NBC’s Decision Desk projects them at about 248 seats once the counting is done.
Hakeem Jeffries is now poised to become the first Black speaker in the history of the House.
“America is back,” he said. “This is a change election. And we understand as House Democrats we need to deliver dramatic change.”
Florida Republicans tried to help. The GOP legislature redrew Kathy Castor’s Tampa-area district this year into one Trump would have won by 11 points in 2024. Castor won it anyway, and Democrat Pia Dandiya took a brand-new seat the DeSantis map created.
Rep. Robert Garcia, in line to chair the Oversight Committee, is promising subpoenas on “day one.” His list includes World Liberty Financial, the Trump family crypto venture that sold a $500 million stake to an Emirati royal, Jared Kushner’s contracts, the pardon of Binance’s co-founder, and what his office calls the “cover-up of the Epstein files.”
“Lawyer up.”
Elon Musk spent more than $200 million in Texas. Democrats won the Senate seat AND the governor’s mansion.
James Talarico beat Ken Paxton for Senate, the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Texas since 1988 and the first to win statewide there since 1994.
Paxton had the richest man in the world in his corner. Elon Musk put more than $200 million behind him, according to the Texas Tribune.
“All the money in the world is no match for the people of Texas,” Talarico said.
The same night, state Rep. Gina Hinojosa toppled Gov. Greg Abbott, who was running for a record fourth term. She’ll be the first Latina governor of Texas and its first Democratic governor since Ann Richards.
“There are still votes to be counted, but mathematically we are not going to be able to win this election,” Abbott said.
Trump was quick to offer his condolences. He blamed Abbott for becoming “a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life.”
Abbott had won his three previous races by double digits.
“We shocked the world tonight,” Hinojosa said.
Trump called her a slur. Pediatrician Annie Andrews just took his candidate’s Senate seat.
Dr. Annie Andrews, a pediatrician and mother of three from Mount Pleasant, knocked off Sen. Darline Graham in South Carolina on Tuesday.
Graham was appointed to the seat after her brother, Lindsey Graham, died suddenly in July. She won the GOP runoff with Trump’s endorsement, and he campaigned for her several times.
Andrews is the first Democrat South Carolina has elected to the Senate since 1998, and the first woman the state has ever elected to the Senate.
Last week, Trump called her “Tranny Annie” at a rally in Rock Hill. At a Clemson rally the week before, he suggested her medical license should be revoked.
Andrews outraised Graham by $22 million, mostly from small donors, and took no corporate PAC money.
“They messed around and found out,” Brad Woodhouse of Protect Our Care told the Daily Beast.
Andrews kept it simpler.
“I think we just made some history.”
Haley Stevens backed his opponent. Abdul El-Sayed won anyway.
Abdul El-Sayed beat Republican Mike Rogers for Senate in Michigan, and he’ll be the first Muslim U.S. senator. Decision Desk HQ called it at 1:33 a.m.
Two days before the election, Rep. Haley Stevens, who lost the Democratic primary to him, endorsed Rogers and appeared with him at Detroit’s Perfecting Church. Her longtime chief of staff resigned. Schumer called it a “despicable betrayal.”
Stevens said it was “a decision of conscience.” El-Sayed raised $2.4 million the next day.
Trump had called him a “jihadist” and said he would “have to go through a metal detector” to get into the Senate.
In his victory speech, El-Sayed thanked AIPAC, which he said spent $42 million against him.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to beat you twice.”
Then he turned to his faith.
“You may have noticed I always say Insha’Allah or God willing… But today, tonight, we can turn that Inshallah into a Alhamdulillah.”
Four new governors made history, and Vivek Ramaswamy’s concession call went to voicemail
Democrats flipped at least four governorships by early Wednesday, in Georgia, Iowa, Texas and Ohio.
In Georgia, Keisha Lance Bottoms beat Republican Rick Jackson, who had said he wanted to govern like “Trump with a Southern tone.” She’s the first Black woman elected governor in U.S. history, and the first Democrat to win the job in Georgia since 1998.
“What we do in this moment will echo through history,” she said.
In New Mexico, Deb Haaland became the first Native American woman elected governor anywhere in the country. “It is our time,” she said.
In Wisconsin, David Crowley beat Rep. Tom Tiffany to become the state’s first Black governor. “Because of you all, a boy facing eviction will now live in the governor’s mansion,” he said.
And in Ohio, Amy Acton beat Vivek Ramaswamy 51% to 45% in a state Trump won by 11 points. She’ll be the first woman Ohio has ever elected governor.
Yesterday, we noted that Ohio has been a state for 223 years and gets a say. It used it.
Ramaswamy’s concession call went to voicemail.
“We left her a message,” he said.
Trump says Republicans lost because he wasn’t on the ballot
Trump broke his silence on Truth Social Tuesday night.
“I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
He followed it with a picture of a red MAGA hat bearing one word, “VETO.”
In a call with CBS News, he congratulated Democrats and said he looks forward to working with them. “It’s sad in the sense that we would have won easily if I was on the ballot. But I wasn’t,” he added.
He told The New York Times he is “absolutely willing to accept those results.”
Around midnight he called Fox News for 23 minutes and blamed the candidates he had endorsed. “I don’t view it as a hit on me,” he said.
On Election Day morning, he told Fox that if Americans ever got tired of him, he’d move to Israel and become prime minister.
His approval rating in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll is 32%.
We’ll help him pack.
Tell Democrats to GET TO WORK!

Sign these petitions to tell Democrats to hit the ground running:
A new majority means subpoenas, hearings and votes, but only if the people elected feel the pressure from day one. Let’s go.
